Recap: The GEDP Construction Consortium on June 18

Construction Consortium at Beerfoot Brewery
June 18 | 4:00–6:00 PM

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our June Construction Consortium at Beerfoot Brewery. Hosted by the Galveston Economic Development Partnership, this gathering brought together regional developers, contractors, public officials, and institutional partners for a productive and engaging evening of insight and connection.

Our featured speaker, Carlos Gomez—Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Galveston District—delivered a practical and in-depth look at how local businesses can work with USACE. His presentation covered registration through SAM.gov, market research, federal proposal preparation, and insights into the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment (PIEE). Carlos is also preparing follow-up details on contracts under $25,000 in response to attendee interest.

If you'd like to request a copy of his slide deck or have questions about working with USACE, you're welcome to contact Carlos directly:

GEDP Construction Consortium: May Meetup

Beerfoot Brewery | May 21 | 4:00–6:00 PM

The May gathering of the Galveston Construction Consortium brought together local contractors, vendors, and developers for an energizing evening of connection and insight at Beerfoot Brewery.

A special thank you to Euau Owens of HGACBuy for delivering a highly informative presentation on cooperative purchasing strategies and how businesses can better position themselves for public sector opportunities. While Ryan Burwell (BuyBoard) was unable to attend, we hope to welcome him at a future event.

We also heard from Teresa Wagonseller of Higher Up CFO Services, who shared practical strategies for sustainable growth tailored to the construction industry—offering attendees valuable takeaways on financial clarity and scalability.

As always, the event mixed familiar faces with fresh introductions and left participants better equipped to navigate procurement channels and grow their pipeline.

Stay tuned for our next Consortium meetup—more opportunity is on the way.

Thank you for Joining Us on April 23rd at Beerfoot!

April’s Construction Consortium was one of our most exciting and well-attended to date, with 70+ industry professionals packing the back room at Beerfoot Brewery. The atmosphere was relaxed and electric—perfect for meaningful conversation, collaboration, and a few cold drinks from the cash bar.

We’re deeply grateful to UTMB Health and Falcontail Marketing & Design for helping make this event such a success. Shanna Watts, Senior Acquisition Specialist at UTMB, shared critical insights on procurement and upcoming projects, giving attendees a clear roadmap for how to engage with one of Galveston’s most influential institutions.

We were also proud to feature a Vendor Spotlight on Falcontail, a local firm whose work is redefining what strategic marketing can do for businesses in construction, real estate, and beyond.

Thank you to everyone who came out. If you missed this one, don’t worry—another exciting program is on deck for May, and trust us, you’ll want to be there.

👉 Be sure to sign up for updates so you never miss an opportunity to connect, learn, and grow with Galveston's top minds and doers.

Local and Regional Contractors Available

In 2023, the GEDP launched the Construction Consortium, a gathering of construction experts aimed at promoting local business-to-business projects and discussing upcoming work executed by local contractors. This initiative not only fosters community collaboration but one of the great byproducts is having regional contractors who, in times like these, can make themselves available for restoration for homes and businesses.
